 Components and Materials


The CATO Chief Series features injection molded plastic construction with UV inhibitors, a scored acrylic break panel, and a hexagonal locking mechanism.  The numbered components correspond to the exploded diagram above.

1. Hex Key and Lock
The all-plastic hexagonal locking mechanism eliminates metal lock components that could rust or corrode. The matching plastic hex key allows the front trim and acrylic panel to be removed for fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance.

2. Outer Trim Frame
Manufactured from injection-molded, high-impact polystyrene with a nominal wall thickness of 0.110 inches. UV inhibitors are incorporated into the material to improve resistance to ultraviolet exposure. Available in red or white.

3. Scored Acrylic Panel
 Manufactured from 0.080-inch acrylic, with a scored grid pattern designed to facilitate emergency access using the break tool. Available in clear or red; CATO identifies red acrylic as providing the best outdoor UV resistance.

4. Main Body Tub
Manufactured from injection molded, high impact polystyrene with a nominal wall thickness of 0.110 inches.  Contains UV inhibitors for improved resistance to sunlight exposure.  The plastic construction will not rust or corrode like metal cabinet bodies.

5. Hammer (Break Tool)
Manufactured from injection molded polypropylene with a ribbed grip and aluminum striking tip.  The hammer is attached using a clear nylon coated stainless steel cable. Hammer color matches the cabinet trim.  A stainless steel break bar is also available as an alternative break tool option.
